Organizations set meetings at conference time

A variety of meetings and seminars sponsored by LDS Church members or like-minded affiliate organizations are held around the time of LDS General Conference, either once or twice each year. Among meetings scheduled during the upcoming semiannual conference are:

  • The Association for Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists, semi-annual meeting, Oct. 5-6 at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Call 583-6227, or see the Web site at www.amcap.net.

  • Brigham Young University's Family Conference, Oct. 5-6 at the BYU Conference Center, 770 E. University Parkway. The theme is "Families Under Fire: Making Weaknesses Our Strengths."   • BYU's seventh annual International Law and Religion Symposium, "Comparative Constitutional Perspectives on Freedom of Religion and Belief," Oct. 8-10 in the J. Reuben Clark Law Building. Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch and Brazil's Minister of Justice Elizabeth Sussekind will speak Sunday in 205 J. Reuben Clark Law Building (JRCB) at 7 p.m. Symposium sessions will then begin Monday and Tuesday in 303 JRCB at 8:30 a.m. Call 801-378-2112 for information.

  • Orphans Around the World, a new nonprofit organization directed at orphaned, abandoned and neglected children throughout the world, will hold its premier fund-raising event on Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, at 175 N. University Ave. in Provo. BYU professor John Seggar, who has been sending BYU students to Romania since 1998, formed the nonprofit, nondenominational organization to send volunteers and donations to Romania.
