"Before coming into the building this morning we sealed the cover stone of the cornerstone of this great, new structure. That marks the completion of this building."
We preserved the symbolism of the cornerstone "in remembrance of the Son of God, upon whose life and mission this church is established." He alone is the chief cornerstone. Upon him is built a foundation of apostles and prophets.
I am grateful the building is now complete. This millennial year has been a remarkable year for the church. "We have reached out across the world, wherever we are permitted to go." I have visited most of the places where the church is organized and "I have found wonderful people everywhere. . .We have become a vast cosmopolitan society, a vast family of brothers and sisters in the Lord."
In the field of education, we have established seminaries and institutes. "Another item of remarkable consequence is the building of temples." Last Sunday the 100th working temple was dedicated. More will be built. "And now today as another significant accomplishment of this millennial year, we dedicate this great Conference Center."
At the conclusion of the ground-breaking services in July 1997, President Packer asked the Lord to preserve my life so I could be present for the dedication of the new building. "I am grateful for the evident answer to that request."
I am grateful we have the Conference Center. I'm grateful it is completed . "For it is from this pulpit that the law of God shall go forth, together with the word and testimony of the Lord."
"May God bless us as a people. We have found a new stride in this great millennial year. May we walk in the footsteps of the great Jehovah. . .May we walk in the light of Him who was the Messiah of the world, the Son of God."
