Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. Here are their names and biographical information
Sandra C. and Douglas W. Banks
Douglas Wayne Banks, 63, Oakton Ward, Oakton
Virginia Stake; former partner in the accounting firm of Behrens & Banks;
received juris doctor's degree from George Washington University of Law and
a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in accounting; born in
Cedar City, Utah, to Wayne H. and Glenna Barker Banks. Married Sandra Chleo Nickles; six children. She studied at
Northern Virginia Community College and Brigham Young University; born in
Nogales, Ariz., to Cecil Ward and Elna Chleo Thompson Nickles.
Sheri M. and C. Robert Bennett
Curtis Robert Bennett, 40, Stanley Ward,
Olathe Kansas Stake, management, board of directors of Tivol; earned
gemologist degree from Gemologist Institute of America; born in West
Memphis, Ark., to Byron Eugene and Margaret Darleen Johnson Bennett.
Married Sheri Marie Bevell; five children.
She attended Mesa Community College and is self-employed as a corporate
consultant; born in Mesa, Ariz., to John Nance and Betty Sybil Stallings
Bevell.
Michael B. and Joan S. Madsen
Michael B. Madsen, 57, Parleys 3rd Ward, Salt
Lake Parleys Stake; physician; received bachelor's degree in economics,
master's of business administration and medical degrees from University of
Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edwin Lund and Grace Gibson Madsen.
Married Joan Stoker; six children. She
received bachelor's degree from University of Utah in education; born in
Salem, Ore., to Golden Lyman and Armenia Willey Stoker.
Vania C. and Carlos R. Martins
Carlos Roberto Martins, 44, Costa and Silva
Branch, Campinas Brazil Castelo Stake; owner of language school
franchising; bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in computer
science and statistics; born in Curitiba, Brazil, to Antonio O. and Hilda
Martins. Married Vania C. Pimentel; six
children. She was born in Ponta Grossa, Brazil, to Raul and Irene C.
Pimentel.
Rosann B. and Glen A. Overton
Glen A. Overton, 56, Edgemont 20th Ward,
Provo Utah Edgemont Stake; president of Zions Management; received master's
degree in family science and bachelor's degree in business from Brigham
Young University; born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Helyn Vera Allen;
stepfather, Dell Frampton. Married Rosann Kim
Booke; eight children. She received a bachelor's degree from Brigham
Young University in education; born in Provo, Utah, to Henry Peter and
Sybil Hildred Workman Booke.
Robert M. and Kathleen C. Roberts
Robert Mason Roberts, 54, West Jordan 4th
Ward, West Jordan Utah East Stake; part-time faculty member at Brigham
Young University and former elementary school principal and former mayor of
West Jordan City; received a doctorate in administration from the
University of Utah and master's and bachelor's degrees from Brigham Young
University; born in Chicago, Ill., to Elliott Mason and Dolores Lorraine
Bassmire Roberts. Married Kathleen Jeannette
Conklin; four children. She earned a bachelor's degree from
Willamette University and studied at Brigham Young University and Utah
State University; born in Prairie City, Ore., to Jack Tressler and Dorothy
Hill Conklin.
Dian D. and Anthony G. Shumway
Anthony Gene Shumway, 58, Alma 4th Ward,
Chandler Arizona Alma Stake; salesman for Dura Switch; earned bachelor's
degree from Arizona State University; born in Towanda, Pa., to Gerald
Swinton and Ola Louise Mathis Shumway. Married Dian
Davis; six children. She received bachelor's degree in education at
Arizona State University and did graduate work at five other institutions
of higher learning; born in Tempe, Ariz., to Phil Erwin and Velma Peterson
Davis.
Merna S. and Thomas J. Summers
Thomas John Summers Jr., 58, Mink Creek Ward, Pocatello Idaho Stake; special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation; earned bachelor's degree from Idaho State University in language and studied at American Institute for Foreign Trade; born in Tampa, Fla., to Thomas J and Bardenia-Green Summers. Married Merna L. Sharp; five children. She received a nursing degree from Brigham Young University; worked as a registered nurse; born in Pocatello, Idaho, to Joseph W. and Jessie V. Gardner Sharp.
