Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Here are their names and biographical information. New mission presidents and their assignments are presented on pages 8-9 in this issue.
Sharon J. and Vaughn R. Anderson
Vaughn Roy Anderson, 52, Suncrest 5th
Ward, Orem Utah Suncrest Stake; will preside over Paraguay Asuncion North
Mission; served as president and CEO of Gold Tip Inc.; graduated from
Brigham Young University with bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical
engineering; born in LaGrande, Ore., to Ernest Clifford and Idon Chadwick
Anderson. Married Sharon Kay Jordan; five
children. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's
degree in elementary education; born in Baker, Ore., to David Craig and
Luella Nelson Jordan.
Jane F. and Richard G. Hinckley
Richard Gordon Hinckley, 59, Arlington
Hills Ward, Salt Lake Emigration Stake; will preside over Utah Salt Lake
City Mission; equity partner in Howells Industries; earned master's of
business administration from Stanford University and bachelor's in
economics from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to
Gordon Bitner and Marjorie Pay Hinckley. Married Jane Everett Freed; four children. She earned
bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Utah; born in Salt
Lake City, Utah, to David Lester and Blanche Everett Freed.
R. Brent and Donna L. Kinghorn
Ronald Brent Kinghorn, 60, Sugar City 1st
Ward, Sugar City Idaho Stake; will preside over the Albania Tirana Mission;
community services vice president for Ricks College; earned master's of
education degree from Brigham Young University and bachelor's degree in
history/political science from the University of Utah; born in Los Angeles,
Calif., to Ronald J. and Dorothy Rae Harrison Kinghorn. Married Donna Jean Luke; 10 children. She earned a
bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Utah; born
in Rexburg, Idaho, to Lowell M. and Merle Archibald Luke.
Terri Anne B. and Allan F. Packer
Allan Forrest Packer, 52, Forest Bend
Ward, Sandy Utah Cottonwood Creek Stake; will preside over the Spain Malaga
Mission; vice president of Info Systems and Technology; graduated with
bachelor's degree in information systems from Brigham Young University;
born in Brigham City, Utah, to Boyd Kenneth and Donna Edith Smith Packer.
Married Terri Anne Bennett; eight children.
She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Brigham Young University;
born in Provo, Utah, to ElDean and Maralin Payne Bennett.
Lisa B. and Joseph M. Thomas
Joseph Michael Thomas, 47, Collierville
Ward, Memphis Tennessee Stake; will preside over Mexico Mexico City West
Mission; group director of sales for Medtronic; graduated from the
University of Arkansas with a master's degree in operations management and
a bachelor's in life sciences from the University of Memphis; born in
Pennington County, S.D., to Cleo Anne Romero and Joseph Pridgeon Thomas.
Married Lisa Kay Byrd; two children. She
earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Memphis;
born in Memphis, Tenn., to Marvin Landon and Patty Evelyn Parker Byrd.
Robert J. and Kathy Ann P. Walker
Robert John Walker, 48, Rolling Hills
Ward, Centerville Utah Canyon View Stake; will preside over the Australia
Sydney North Mission; CEO of Bailey's Moving Co.; studied business at the
University of Utah; born in Nampa, Idaho, to Clive Stevenson and Ardeth
Hansen Walker. Married Kathy Ann Parker; five
children. She studied office administration at Weber State University; born
at Hill Air Force Base, Clearfield, Utah, to Edwin Charles and Jean Ann
Taylor Parker.
Kristine L. and James B. Whitesides
James Ben Whitesides, 51, Foothill Ranch
Ward, Santa Margarita California Stake; will preside over the Japan Nagoya
Mission; vice president and general counsel of National Purchasing Corp.;
earned juris doctor degree from Brigham Young University and a bachelor's
degree in English from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City,
Utah, to Richard D. and Phyllis Jeanette Warner Whitesides. Married Kristine Lindahl; two children. She earned a
bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in elementary education;
born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Blaine Gray and Joy Green Lindahl.
Heather Ann M. and John F. Young
John Fitzgerald Young, 39, Fraser Ward, Prince George British Columbia Stake; will preside over the Russia Moscow Mission; assistant professor at the University of Northern British Columbia; earned doctorate from the University of Toronto in political science; master's degree from Carleton University and bachelor's degree in Soviet studies from the University of Alberta; born in Edmonton, Alberta, to Peter Russell and Eileen Kowalchuk Young. Married Heather Ann Munro; three children. She earned a registered nurse's degree from the University of Alberta; born in Edmonton, Alberta, to Alasdair Ross Munro and Darlene Virginia Hunsaker Munro.
