BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Last fall when the Boston Massachusetts Temple was dedicated as the Church's 100th, members of the temple district were encouraged to give service in ways that commemorated the number 100. Subsequently, members of the West Bridgewater 3rd Ward, Hingham Massachusetts Stake, decided to provide 100 items of nice Sunday clothing for friends and relatives of the 35-40 members in their ward from Cape Verde, an island off the western tip of Africa. Some members there, "are always in need of Sunday clothing," said David Berndt, first counselor in the bishopric who headed the project.

Under the direction of Bishop Haavard Sterri, the ward members collected appropriate clothing with sizes common in Cape Verde. The clothing has been cleaned and will be sent on its way in a week when the next ship departs from Boston Harbor to the island.

Also, as part of the 100 service projects by the Boston temple district, members of the Ellsworth Branch in the Bangor Maine Stake will offer valet parking service during the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital's annual spring fundraiser Chef Gala.

Gratuities earned during the fundraiser will be donated to a local food pantry and to a homeless shelter.

The branch also offers valet parking during the Poinsettia Ball, which is the hospital's Christmas fundraiser.

Last year, the branch raised $750 by parking 130 cars and checking more than 300 coats. This donation was matched by the Maine Ending Hunger Fund, making the branch's donation to the Ellsworth Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry worth $1,500.

This is the branch's fourth year assisting the fundraiser.
