ST. GEORGE, Utah — A former Deseret News editor and publisher, the late Elder Mark E. Petersen of the Quorum of the Twelve and one of the pre-eminent newsmen of the West during the 20th century, was inducted into the Utah Newspaper Hall of Fame during a Utah Press Association meeting March 10.
Besides writing thousands of editorials for the Church News, which is published by the Deseret News, and reporting and editing countless news stories, Elder Petersen wrote and co-wrote 43 books. In directing the Deseret News during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, he doubled the paper's circulation. Elder Petersen died in 1984.
