NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. Mel Bashore of the Redwood Ward, Riverton Utah Summerhill Stake, has been named the 2000 winner of the Professional Football Researchers Association annual achievement award the Ralph Hay Award, given for lifetime achievement in professional football research and historiography.
Brother Bashore, a longtime member of the association and historian in the Family and Church History Department, has been a major contributor to the demographic information found in several professional football encyclopedias: Total Football I and II, and the Macmillan Pro Football Encyclopedia. His enormous and continuous correspondence with former players has filled in an untold number of blanks and corrected many errors. The Hay Award has been given annually since 1988.
