NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga — The Church in Tonga is cooperating with the Tongan Government's Ministry of Lands and Surveys and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., in carrying out an earthquake monitoring project in Tonga. The project will map seismic activity in Tonga for the course of one year, yielding information about the seismic structure, hazards, and deep Earth processes occuring in and beneath the archipelago.

Of the six instruments on the main island of Tongatapu, three are located on Church property. One is on the grounds of Liahona High School and two are located on meetinghouse grounds in Niutoa and Mu'a.
