Despite limited publicity of the Church's production of "Light of the World," approximately 26,000 tickets were sold within 90 minutes after Internet ticket sales began Oct. 9.

One of 1,500 costumes is fitted and made ready for performances in February.

Since then, another 50,000 tickets have been sold. With a total seating capacity of nearly 200,000 spectators in the Conference Center, the 10 performances are expected to fill quickly.

"This production is unlike anything the Church has ever done," said Craig Haslam of Church Public Affairs. "Anyone who has seen it comes away with a sense of awe. Those interested in this multi-media production will want to order tickets soon."

"Light of the World" is a dramatic production "celebrating life, the spirit of man, and the glory of God," said Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve during a press conference announcing the production Sept. 19.

"This production will celebrate light and our fervent belief that there is a universal light within each individual that inspires us to achieve, and, against all odds, accomplish the seemingly impossible in our lives," said Elder Hales. (Please see Church News Sept. 22 issue for details of the production.)

Tickets are $5 per seat and can be purchased on the Internet at www.events.lds.org, or by filling out a mail order form found on bulletin boards in ward meetinghouses, or in the Oct. 6 issue of Church News on page 10.

Ten performances are scheduled to run Feb. 7-23, including evening and matinee shows. Contrary to earlier listings, evening performances are now 7 p.m., instead of the published 7:30 p.m. Spectators are asked to be an hour early to performances, allowing sufficient time for parking and security checks. A pre-show of colorful international characters begins 90 minutes before the performance. The pre-show plays an integral part of the performance by setting the mood for the evening. There is a limit of 10 tickets per order.
