BUCHAREST, Romania — Young women in the Chisinau Branch of the Romania Bucharest Mission worked earlier this fall to help babies and young children at the Chisinau City Orphanage. They were trained by Sister Lora McIntire, a humanitarian service missionary, to use the toys in the learning basket provided by the Church.

Because of the young women, infants enjoyed the soothing strokes of caring hands and a soft lullaby. Silent, quiet babies learned to play games like "peek-a-boo." Some toddlers learned to walk; others said their first word. One boy who never smiled began beaming every time the young women came. Many youngsters were mystified by bubbles blown in the air that popped as they reached for them.

After serving more than 260 combined hours in eight weeks, some of the young women arranged their school schedules so they can continue serving at least one afternoon a week.
