"The world affects us . . . especially in economic ways," said Elder Mark E. Petersen of the Quorum of the Twelve, speaking in April 1981 general conference. "These include strong persuasions to overspend our financial resources, to buy beyond our means, to overextend our credit and thus sink deeply into debt. Oh, the inducements of sales pressures, of persuasive advertising, of easy credit, and the unwise use of credit cards!"
