TURKU, Finland Relief Society sisters of the Turku 2nd Ward, Tampere Finland Stake, took advantage of the Finnish Independence Day holiday to visit the Stockholm Sweden Temple. Because of the extensive travel time required, most mothers of small children are unable to attend the temple on a regular basis.
But with the support of their husbands who were able to care for their children at home during the holiday, the sisters took the 11-hour ferry ride during the night from Turku, Finland, to Stockholm, Sweden. After a day of attending the temple, the sisters felt spiritually rejuvenated and returned home that night on the ferry.
While in the temple the sisters joined members from Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. This was the first opportunity for some of the sisters to meet people from a country that had once been enemy to their nation.
The gospel melted past animosities and sisters who had painful memories said the Holy Ghost helped them learn to love each other.
During the return trip on the ferry, a room was found where the sisters celebrated their country's Independence Day and bore testimonies. The sisters remarked how the demands of travel will change when a temple is built in Helsinki.
