WAYNESBURG, PA — When Elders Jeremy Green and Ryan Treft in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission learned about a Christmas parade in their area of Greene County, they felt that the Waynesburg Branch should enter a float.
The branch was enthusiastic about the idea, but with only 10 days until the parade, members had little time to develop an idea and build the float.
Members gathered at the home of the branch president, John C. Parker, where they worked many hours constructing a Nativity scene on a trailer in the Parkers' garage. Bruce Barnett, stake patriarch, and his wife, Armi, played a central role in developing the idea and design. The truck to pull the trailer was donated by a local dealership.
The 16 missionaries from the zone marched alongside the float. Of the 150 entrants, the Waynesburg Branch float won "Best Design" honors.
