On his return from an extended trip to Latin America, President Spencer W. Kimball met with President Jimmy Carter in Washington, D.C., on March 11, 1977, according to the March 19, 1977, Church News.

It was the second meeting between the two; they had met in the previous fall when President Carter was in Salt Lake City during his presidential campaign.

The 20-minute meeting in the White House's Oval Office was arranged by Utah congressman Gunn McKay at the request of President Carter, it said in the article.

The article stated: "Rep. McKay said after the visit, 'President Kimball expressed gratitude for President Carter's emphasis on protecting family life in his administration.

" 'President Carter said he felt deeply about spiritual things, and said that he prayed often during the day for guidance in making decisions.' "

President Kimball was concluding a trip through eight Latin American countries that also included visits to heads of state in Mexico, Guatemala, Chile and Bolivia.
