"As Salt Lake City has hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, we have seen a partial fulfillment of many prophecies. The nations of the Earth and many of their leaders have come."
There have been many expressions of light throughout the Olympics the Olympic flame, the Child of Light and the theme "Light the Fire Within." The most memorable light was in the eyes of the competitors. But what moved us were the deeper truths such things symbolized the source of light within us.
"Each of us brings a light to the Earth, the light of Christ . . . . By using the light of Christ to discern and choose what is right, we can be led to an even greater light: the gift of the Holy Ghost."
We are engaged in a battle between the forces of light and darkness. The Lord is our light and, literally, our salvation. His light will form a protective shield between us and the darkness.
The generation of spiritual light can be found in praying, studying the scriptures, fasting and serving.
"Unless you are fully engaged in living the gospel living it with all your 'heart, might, mind and strength' you cannot generate enough spiritual light to push back the darkness . . . . We who have the gift of the Holy Ghost must be true to its promptings so we can be a light to others.
"I know that God lives. I know that he hath called us 'out of darkness into his marvelous light.' I pray that the light of his restored gospel will continue to spread throughout the world."
