Sister Bonnie D. Parkin, newly sustained as Relief Society general president, shared her testimony during the Sunday afternoon session.

"I express my thanks to Sister Smoot, Sister Jensen and Sister Dew for the great service they have given all of us as members of the Church," she said of the newly released general presidency. "I express my gratitude to my counselors, Kathleen H. Hughes and Anne C. Pingree, for their willingness to serve. They are women of faith."

She also thanked family members, women of the Church who have have been mentors, and missionaries and members in the England London South Mission, where her husband, James L. Parkin, presided.

"I do not know why I was called. But I do know that I was called. I pledge to you my love, my support and I ask that you will be patient as I learn," she said.

She bore her testimony, saying, "I know the Lord loves the women of the Church. If I could have one thing happen for every woman in this Church, it would be that she would feel the love of the Lord daily. I have felt the love of the Lord in my life, and I am so thankful for that; I am thankful for the peace I have felt. I testify of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know He lives. I have felt His love, and I have felt His forgiveness."
