APIA, Samoa — When missionaries from the Samoa Apia Mission first saw the Fagali'i Cemetery, located about seven miles from the mission office, they knew something needed to be done. They couldn't see any graves from the road. Soon they went to work every month pulling weeds, trimming trees and building a fence.
"The more we cleaned the better it looked," said Sister Talaloa Pe'a, wife of the mission president, Suau'upaia Pe'a.
The cemetery contains the graves of some early Church missionaries as well as people from the nearby Fagali'i Village. "We are pleased with the work that all of our missionaries have done to show our appreciation to our early missionaries who first brought the gospel to our people here in Samoa," Sister Pe'a said.
