WARSAW, Poland — An indication of gradually growing Church membership in Poland, the first district to be created in the country, was organized in a special conference May 12 by President Lawrence G. Lewis of the Poland Warsaw Mission.
The new district consists of four branches in central and northeastern Poland, including the branch in Warsaw that was divided to create the Warsaw 1st and 2nd branches.
Robert Zelewski, former president of the Lodz and Warsaw branches, was called as the first district president. The Church was organized in Poland in the late 19th century, but wars and migration of members hampered growth.
The Poland Warsaw Mission was created in 1990. A meetinghouse built by the Church was dedicated in Warsaw in 1991. Today, there are slightly more than one thousand members in the nation of 40 million people.
