QUITO, Ecuador — The Quito Ecuador Ofelia Stake and the Church's employment center recently joined forces to put on a preparedness fair, following the counsel of President Gordon B. Hinckley to teach people how to live providently.

More than half of the people who attended a Church-sponsored preparedness fair in Quito, Ecuador, were not Church members.

More than 300 people attended, with 187 coming as friends of the Church. Many of these asked for more information about the gospel, and about welfare principles.

In the fair, basic principles were taught and many people learned how to become more prepared.

Concerned with the grave economic crisis in Ecuador, especially in Quito, President Olvin Enrique Mora B. initiated the fair to teach members and friends how to deal with various problems, providing such solutions as food storage and ways to earn more money.

The fair was truly the gathering of diverse people, as various organizations interested in the way of life and sustenance of people in Ecuador participated.

The support of the employment center was fundamental in spreading information about the fair. The stake helped prepare materials, and brought together groups and individuals who understood ways to accomplish home storage goals within the options of microbusiness owners.

"President Mora had the inspiration and vision to extend the preparedness fair to help everyone understand the importance of the Church president's admonition, and to give more importance to the storage program and personal achievement," said Fulton A. Paredes of the employment center of the Quito region.
