President David O. McKay visited Scotland — where he had served his mission from 1897-1899 — to dedicate two new chapels in Glasgow and Edinburgh, according to the June 18, 1952, Church News. He dedicated the Glasgow chapel on June 2 and the Edinburgh chapel June 4.

This was his fourth visit to the native land of his father, Patriarch David McKay, the Church News reported. The other two visits were while he was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve.

At the Glasgow dedication, President McKay told the congregation: "You do not know what this reunion means to me. Some of the dearest friends I have, I met here in the Scottish Conference, as it was called then, fifty-four years ago, when I first came to Glasgow, an unmarried lad just out of school. To see you members here tonight fills my heart with gratitude."

In Edinburgh, he said: "Grateful, am I? Words are too feeble to express my gratitude! Your welcome tonight, your beautiful presents, mean more than just a greeting, mean more than just an expression of friendship and good will — They mean a recognition that all of us in the Church have been inspired and led by a high and guiding Hand."
