A tour of seven European countries by President Spencer W. Kimball began in Switzerland on Aug. 13, 1977, according to the Sept. 3, 1977, Church News.
President Kimball installed a new president at the Swiss Temple during his brief stay in that country and then moved on to Vienna, Austria, where he met with members and missionaries. The tour continued in Milan, Italy, on Aug. 16, where he spoke at a meeting attended by about 800 members and investigators.
The Church News reported on the stop in Milan, quoting President Kimball: "We are all sons and daughters of God, and the gospel is free to all men. But we must live according to the laws of Christ. We cannot change the program to suit our convenience."
Continuing his tour, President Kimball met with members in Padova, Rome and Catania, Italy; London, England; Berlin, Germany; Warsaw, Poland; and Dresden, Germany.
A meeting conducted by President Kimball in Rome on Aug. 18 was covered by an Italian television station. He said during that meeting, according to the article: "There are larger churches, but none are growing as fast as ours."
The article concluded: "President Kimball's visit was the first time members in most cities had met a prophet."
