ROTUMA — The small Pacific island of Rotuma received needed medical supplies donated by Church Humanitarian Services to the Rotuma hospital in June.

The donation was presented to the chairman of the Council of Chiefs of Rotuma by the two missionaries serving on the island, Elder Ben Wanamaker of Orem, Utah, and Elder Adam Chase of Alpine, Utah. The ceremony was attended by all of the Rotuman village chiefs, hospital personnel and many island residents.

The gift was gratefully received. "This day is a wonderful day. It is not only an answer to prayers, but it's a miracle," said the hospital's doctor in his response.

Rotuma is an isolated 18-square-mile island 440 miles north of Suva, Fiji. Although it has been associated with Fiji for more than a century, its 2,000 residents have maintained their Polynesian culture and distinct language. There is a very small but strong branch of the Church on the island.
