In celebrating the 215th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square will perform a patriotic concert Sept. 17. The featured speaker during the concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. (MDT) in the Tabernacle on Temple Square will be President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the First Presidency.

The musical program will include such classics as "America the Beautiful," "This Land Is Your Land," "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" and "The Story of the Battle Hymn of the Republic," which will be joined by guest soprano soloist, Daisy Jackson, who is recently retired as Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force Band.

Directing the music for the patriotic evening will be choir director Craig Jessop, with Richard Elliott at the organ. The audience will be welcomed by Sally P. Brinton, president of the Utah Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, which is sponsoring the concert. Included will be a presentation of colors by a military honor guard, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of the national anthem by the choir and orchestra.

The concert is free to the public, but tickets are required. They are available at the Conference Center ticket office (door 4) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and on the Internet at www.lds.org/events. Children must be 8 years old or older to attend.
