OGDEN, Utah — The Ogden Utah Temple, dedicated in January 1972, is receiving some improvements, including the addition of an Angel Moroni statue atop its spire.
Besides the statue, the project involves renovation of landscaping around the temple and adjacent tabernacle, replacement of the lighting around the temple exterior, improvement of drainage, modification of parking and revamping of the temple fountain and pool. Work began Sept. 3 and is expected to be completed by year's end. The temple will remain open for ordinances while the project proceeds.
The Ogden and Provo Utah temples, similar in design, were dedicated in 1972. They were the first temples in Utah to be constructed in 75 years. At the time, it was not uncommon for temples to be constructed without Moroni statues, though nearly every temple built since then has included the characteristic sculpture.
No plans have been announced to equip other existing temples with Angel Moroni statues.
