"You young people here remind me of diamonds in a setting," said President Spencer W. Kimball during a Thanksgiving Devotional for seminary students on Nov. 20, 1977. Besides the capacity congregation in the Salt Lake Tabernacle, others watched the live broadcast on KBYU-TV, according to an article in the Nov. 26, 1977, Church News.

The article further quoted President Kimball: "You need seminary for the same reasons your mothers need to go to Relief Society and your fathers to priesthood meeting. All of the family needs to participate in the Church programs so that each can be reinforced, reassured and, if necessary, redirected.

"We must be fed and fortified regularly in order to live in the world without being of the world."

President Kimball also told the students, "There are some things Latter-day Saints do, and other things we just don't do. The sooner you take such stands, the taller you will be. . . .

"Above everything else, the Lord needs a pure and holy generation through which to accomplish His purposes."
