Earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah. Born Sept. 28, 1935, in Murray, Utah, to William F. and Delsa Christensen McCleary. Married Shirla Ann Jones, daughter of Ivan LeRoy and Gladys Adora Ostler Jones. Parents of five children.
