GLENNALLEN, Alaska Victims of the Nov. 3 Alaska earthquake received help from the Church with the arrival of food from the nearby bishops storehouse. On Nov. 11, Elder Clifford Godfrey and Sister Ellen Godfrey, serving as Welfare Services missionaries at the storehouse in Palmer, Alaska, drove a truck of supplies to Glennallen, from where volunteers delivered the supplies to the nearby communities of Mentasta Lake and Slana, sites of some of the most damage.
The rural area struck by the earthquake is about 175 miles north of Anchorage and 80 miles south of Fairbanks. Many families were stranded because of damaged roads and bridges, and several homes were destroyed or damaged. The local Housing Authority provided emergency shelter, and the Red Cross provided emergency services. The Alaska National Guard has been hauling in water for domestic use because of damage to well water.
