On Sept. 23, 1995, as part of his message during the General Relief Society meeting, President Gordon B. Hinckley read "The Family: A Proclamation to the World," written by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve. Some of the truths revealed in this sacred document are the focus of this week's Church News, dedicated to helping Church members strengthen their families. The proclamation teaches that "happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities."
