The principle competitors for the starting quarterback position at BYU next season are all returned missionaries.

Matt Berry from Redmond, Wash., a redshirt sophomore, served a mission in Panama.

Todd Mortensen from Tempe, Ariz., a junior, served a mission in Venezuela.

Lance Pendleton from St. George, Utah, a redshirt sophomore, served a mission in the Dominican Republic.

John Beck from Mesa, Ariz., recently returned from missionary service in Portugal.

Last year's highly touted recruit from Thousand Oaks, Calif., quarterback Ben Olson, recently began service in the Canada Calgary Mission.
