Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve, right, holds swords once owned by Thomas L. Kane an advocate of Latter-day Saints during Brigham Young's presidency. The swords were donated Jan. 26 to the Church by descendents of Thomas Kane: Margarite McFarlan Young, center left, Tim McFarlan, center, and Carol Kane Simerly, center right. President Don A. Evans of the Mesa Mountain View Stake, left, told the McFarlan family, all members of another church, about their great-great-great grandfather's friendship to the early Church members. In response, they decided to give the swords to the Church. Before receiving the swords, Elder Ballard took the opportunity to share more about the Church's relationship with Thomas L. Kane. In response, Tim McFarlan said, "I feel like there has been divine intervention in allowing our family to donate these swords to the Church."
