Service to others was the theme of activities held by the Salt Lake Utah (Tongan) Stake March 27-30.
President Semisi H. Pau'u suggested that service be held on the 10th anniversary of the creation of the stake. The service began with a temple outing March 27. Nearly 270 adults attended three sessions at the Jordan River Temple. On Saturday, March 29, 75 youth weeded gardens and cleaned around Church headquarters buildings and the nearby Brigham Young Cemetery.
"We wanted to use all our youth, but they only asked for 60," said William Afeaki, stake high councilor. "Seventy-five showed up."
On the same day, Scouts in the stake collected 6,000 pounds of food for Utahns Against Hunger. At noon, stake members gathered at the Salt Lake Liberty Stake's gymnasium where 800 hygiene kits assembled by young women in the stake were given to the LDS Humanitarian Center, and stake members enjoyed dancing and other entertainment. A special stake fireside was held March 30 in which Elder John H. Groberg of the Seventy spoke. Youth performed a musical number, "Hurrah for Zion," inspired by the movie, "The Other Side of Heaven," based on the missionary labors in Tonga of Elder Groberg. Some 2,000-2,500 stake members and friends attended.
