"In a world of turmoil and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to make our families the center of our lives and the top of our priorities."

The First Presidency has expressed concern about the deterioration of the family, and the church is undertaking many efforts to help families achieve greater harmony and love.

"We need to make our homes a place of refuge from the storm, which is increasing in intensity all about us. Even if the smallest openings are left, unintended negative influences can penetrate the very walls of our homes."

Parents are to preside over families with help from the church's resources, including television programmings and other aids. The church's Web site, www.LDS.org, has been updated, with many ideas for family activities, tips for family home evening, strengthening relationships and family unity. Church publications also offer inspirational ideas.

"We hope that by flooding the church with family-oriented media, members will be assisted and encouraged to build stronger and better families. We hope it will cause a conscious and sustained effort in building an eternal family unit.

" . . . our families are not yet ours. The Lord has committed them to us to see how we will treat them. Only if we are faithful will they be given to us forever. What we do on Earth determines whether of not we will be worthy to become heavenly parents." Sundays and Monday evenings should be reserved for families.
