FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Full-time missionaries serving in Fort Wayne, Ind., assisted in flood relief efforts July 9-10 by filling sandbags and stacking them to prevent damage to homes and cities. Several days of heavy rainfall caused severe flooding here and in other parts of northern Indiana in early July. It is believed to be the worst flooding since 1982.

Six missionaries worked 12 hours the first day and another six hours the second day. They estimate filling between 400-500 sandbags.

At times, missionaries worked in waist-high water stacking sandbags. Where a bridge had been washed out, missionaries helped build a bank to prevent flood waters from flowing into homes. At another site, 50 people, including missionaries, formed a human chain to pass sandbags.
