The widespread growth of the church in the latter days, as prophesied at the beginning of this dispensation, is miraculous and will continue. Modern technology allows for every member of the church, regardless of where they live, to hear general conference. The church's 60,000 missionaries are established in every continent on Earth and are looked upon favorably. The church's other programs have likewise been received favorably, such as the recent contribution of $3 million to vaccinate 3 million African children against measles. The money did not come from tithing, but contributions from the faithful members.
The Perpetual Education Fund, first announced two and a half years ago, is keeping current with the growing need for loans. To date about 10,000 loans have been granted to young men and women in Latin America, Asia, Africa and other areas. About 600 of these church members have graduated and the majority are working in good jobs.
"Many more will graduate and enter the work force in their own communities in the months ahead. They will make their mark in their communities, rear families and serve the church. Many are already achieving these objectives.
"Early reports of loan repayment are encouraging."
It is no longer true that "the sun never sets on the British Empire." That distinction has been taken over by the work of the Lord, "and this is only the beginning. We have scarcely scratched the surface."
