ORLANDO, Fla. Responding to an invitation to apply design skills to end hunger, the Orlando Florida Stake participated in "Canstruction 2003" in November.
Canstruction is a national competition to create structures built entirely of canned and packaged foods. Using 138 cases of food supplied by Church Humanitarian Aid, bottled water and canned tomatoes, a team of Church members constructed a replica of the Orlando Florida Temple. On an easel beside the structure was the Church's poster entitled, "Families Can Be Forever," showing a father and mother holding a baby, a daughter, son and family dog.
Those who viewed the display in the Fashion Square Mall in Orlando saw the family scene duplicated and constructed in cans.
For their effort, the Orlando Stake received the award for "Best Use of Product."
After the Canstruction was dismantled, the food was transported to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, where it will be distributed to families in need. This year's Canstruction competition collected 38,710 pounds of food for families in central Florida.
