The organization of the first stake in Bolivia was one of the accomplishments by President Ezra Taft Benson, president of the Quorum of the Twelve, during a South American tour in January 1979, according to the Jan. 27, 1979, Church News.
President Benson, accompanied by his wife, Flora, visited Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia on Jan. 8-16.
He "rededicated Peru and Bolivia for the preaching of the gospel, held many special meetings with members, investigators and missionaries and met with several government officials," according to the article.
The Bolivian stake was organized in Santa Cruz on Jan. 14, the article stated.
It also noted that much of President Benson's tour received heavy media coverage in the various countries.
