SEAL BEACH, Calif. — President Brigham Young's sole surviving grandchild, Marion Young Morgan, celebrated her 105th birthday Thursday, Jan. 15, in her home.
Sister Morgan's son, Jay, said a small group including family members gathered on her birthday at her home in the Leisure World development where she has lived for more than 40 years. He said she still has a sweet tooth and enjoys her birthday cake and ice cream.
Born in 1899, Sister Morgan is the daughter of Brigham Young Jr. and his wife Abigail Stephens Young. Sister Morgan's father was a counselor to his father in the First Presidency for many years and was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve when she was born.
"The Church has been her life," said her son. "She's done a lot of things in the Church. And she's very proud of her heritage."
She married Orson Jay Morgan in the Salt Lake Temple in 1922. They also had a daughter, Marilyn, who passed away at age 28. Following 60 years of marriage, Brother Morgan died in 1982.
Though she has some physical limitations, Sister Morgan is still "sharper than a tack," according to her son. She attended her meetings in the Seal Beach Ward, Long Beach California East Stake, the Sunday following her birthday and received a tribute from ward members.
