AFTON, Wyo. — Elder Vaughn J Featherstone, 72, emeritus General Authority and president of the Logan Utah Temple, was injured Feb. 11 in a car accident in Star Valley, Wyo. Elder Featherstone, who had just spoken at a bi-district Scouting conference at the Grover Ward meetinghouse, Thayne Wyoming Stake, was driving with his wife, Merlene Miner Featherstone, when they hit two horses standing on U.S. Highway 89 two miles south of Afton.

The accident occurred about 8:40 p.m. as Elder and Sister Featherstone were returning to Logan. Elder Featherstone was transported at about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 12 from the Star Valley Medical Center to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Sister Featherstone was taken by ambulance to the Star Valley Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Preliminary reports were that Elder Featherstone suffered facial and other injuries.

Elder Featherstone was sustained as second counselor in the Presiding Bishopric April 6, 1972, and was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy Oct. 1, 1976. He received emeritus status Oct. 6, 2001. He was called as president of the Logan Utah Temple in September 2002.
