In a fireside address on the University of Utah campus, President Spencer W. Kimball told 18,000 young adults of the importance of the Savior in their lives.

The March 3, 1979, Church News reported that on Feb. 25, a capacity congregation in what was then called the University of Utah Special Events Center was increased by others watching a telecast in the nearby Salt Lake Institute complex.

The article reported: "President Kimball told how the early Mormon pioneers established the U. of U. in the midst of their poverty and desperation because of their quest for knowledge and concern for the future."

It then quoted President Kimball: "I recognize that thousands upon thousands of students on this campus are full of faith. In my calling as a special witness for Christ, I would like to tell you how central the Savior Jesus Christ should be in all of our lives. . . .

"There can be no real Christianity, even with good works, unless we are deeply and personally committed to Jesus Christ as our Savior."
