President David O. McKay spoke to capacity congregations in two sessions of a conference for members in Mexico City on March 21, reported the March 27, 1954, Church News.
The stop in Mexico City capped President McKay's tour of South Africa, South America and Central America.
The article stated that the conference of the Central District of the Mexican Mission was held in the Ermita Chapel. It was "filled to overflowing for both the morning and afternoon services. Members came from all over Mexico to attend and several in the congregation had driven as far as 600 and 700 miles to be at the meetings."
Also while in Mexico City, President McKay "inspected the site at 'Industrial City' for the second LDS chapel to be built in Mexico City," according to the article.
