PASCO, Wash. — Two Church members took first place in the high school girls' and boys' pole vaulting event at the state track and field competition here this month. Placing first in the Washington state 3A girls' event was Laura Schvaneveldt of Bellevue, Wash. Placing first in the boys' event was T.J. Emrich of Chehalis, Wash.

Four weeks earlier, the two teenagers met at an invitational track meet at Shelton, Wash., where they also won their respective divisions.

T.J. is a senior this year at W.F. West High School. Laura is a sophomore at Interlake High School.
