KANSAS CITY, Mo. Dolores Austin, Relief Society President of the Blue Springs 1st Ward, Kansas City Missouri Stake, wanted to help out the HIBA Institute in Iraq, a school for children with Down syndrome. The education ministry under Saddam Hussein did not provide funds to educate children with Down syndrome, thereby leaving the school with few supplies or educational materials. Sister Austin organized a collection of educational workbooks, beginning readers and learning aids. Not only did the ward collect almost 600 books, but donations also came from local businesses as well as members of the Mesa (Ariz.) 20th Ward who joined the humanitarian service project by donating Legos and file-folder games. The overwhelming response created another problem: how to ship the many boxes of heavy materials to Iraq. With the help of the military, the items were delivered to the school in Iraq.
