President Boyd K. Packer, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve, celebrated his 80th birthday on Sept. 10, 2004.

After a day at work, he celebrated quietly with his wife, Donna, and their family.

"It took me a long time to get here," responded President Packer for Church News regarding his birthday. "I am looking forward to many more; I've never missed a birthday yet."

President Packer, born Sept. 10, 1924, in Brigham City, Utah, to Ira Wight and Emma Jensen Packer, was set apart as acting president of the Twelve on June 5, 1994, and again on March 12, 1995. He was sustained as an assistant to the Twelve on Sept. 30, 1961 and to the Quorum of the Twelve on April 6, 1970. He was ordained an apostle on April 9, 1970, at age 45.
