AMERICAN FORK, Utah — Members of the Highland Utah East Stake produced a "Come to the Temple" fireside Sept. 19. The stake-sponsored event took place on lawns across from the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple creating the temple as the backdrop and focus for the audience. The fireside included a re-enactment of King Benjamin on his tower speaking the words of his famous address directly from the scriptures.
A member portraying Mormon narrated from his perch in a "cave" where he was abridging the gold plates. A 60-member stake choir and orchestra performed hymns of praise during times of transition. The Mt. Mahogany (young single adult) Ward added to the experience by dressing as Nephites and standing as guards to usher in the stake members. As preparation for the fireside, the stake presidency asked the members of the stake to read the Book of Mormon in 100 days. One 8-year girl was the first in her family to finish reading the Book of Mormon.
"We felt what (the Nephites) must have felt," was among the comments expressed after the event. Participants said this experience changed lives, brought families closer together and strengthened relationships throughout the stake.
