SYDNEY, Australia — Some 200 young adults gathered Dec. 29 to launch the "Helping Hands" effort in Sydney, Australia. With the hope that this will be the first of its kind throughout the country, the young adults, who were attending a young adult conference at St. Joseph's College, spread into three groups and headed to a cemetery, a blood bank and to the Sydney Australia Temple.

Building on the theme of the conference, "Let's do something," the young adults cleaned, maintained and repaired graves and beautified the Church of England section of Rookwood Cemetery. The cemetery covers some 200 acres, so only a small portion could be done in a few hours, but the project enhanced relations between the two churches.

Visiting the conference and offering words of encouragement was Elder Kenneth Johnson of the Seventy and president of the Australia/New Zealand Area.
