Eight new mission presidents, called by the First Presidency, have been
announced. The new leaders and their wives will begin service about July 1.
Their assignments will be announced later. The new leaders and their wives
are:
John and Lenore Ashby
John Howard Ashby, 65; Northridge
Ward, Sandy Utah Crescent Stake; former high councilor, bishop, ward Young
Men president and missionary in the Romania Bucharest and Eastern States
missions. Retired business owner. Born in Nephi, Utah, to George Marion and
Minnie Payne Ashby. Married
Lenore Sturdy,
seven children.
A gospel doctrine teacher, Sister Ashby served with her husband in the
Romania Bucharest Mission, and is a former stake family history center
director, Young Women adviser and Relief Society teacher. Born in Chicago,
Ill., to Joseph Frederick and Charlotte Martha Dochterman Sturdy.
Gwen and John Beck
John Clarence Beck Sr., 47; Western
Hills 4th Ward, Kearns Utah Western Hills Stake; stake president; former
counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, counselor in a bishopric
and missionary in the
Mexico Guadalajara Mission. Assistant administrator
for the Church Educational System. Born in Rock Hill, S.C., to Major
Huebank and Ada Beatrice Wallace Beck. Married
Gwen
Mecham, four children.
A Relief Society teacher, Sister Beck is a former counselor in stake and
ward Relief Society presidencies, counselor in a ward Primary presidency
and Young Women adviser. Born in Duchesne, Utah, to Herbert Lorenzo and
Artamesia Mecham Mecham.
Christine and Lindsay Dil
Lindsay Thomas Dil, 53; Sunset Ward,
Auckland New Zealand Harbour Stake; Area Authority Seventy; former Area
Authority, stake president, bishop and missionary in the French Polynesia
Mission. Managing director of Dil Funeral Services. Born in Birkenhead, New
Zealand, to Wilfred Thomas and Gloria May Burnett Dil. Married
Christine Mary Patrick, four children.
A stake family history librarian and trainer, Sister Dil is a former
national spokeswoman for public affairs and national director for public
affairs. Born in Thames, New Zealand, to Jack Charles Cathro Patrick and
Daphne Myrtle McLean Dawson.
LeeAnn and Jay Francis
Jay Kent Francis, 51; Mountain View
2nd Ward, West Jordan Utah Mountain View Stake; stake president; high
councilor, counselor in a bishopric, ward Young Men president and elders
quorum president. Senior vice president and chief marketing officer for the
Utah Jazz. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jay William and Millicent
Burton Francis. Married
LeeAnn Baker, four
children.
A gospel doctrine teacher, Sister Francis is a former counselor in a
stake Young Women presidency, ward Young Women president and counselor in
ward Young Women and Primary presidencies. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to
Austin Wayne and Edith Marcelle Wonnacott Baker.
Carol and Oscar McConkie
Oscar Walter McConkie III, 53;

Carol Louise Foley, seven children.
Sister McConkie is a former primary teacher, ward Young Women president,
counselor in ward Relief Society and Primary presidencies and Sunday School
teacher. Born in Spokane, Wash., to Williams Massey and Joanne Louis
Webster Johnson Foley.
Connie and Douglas Patterson
Douglas Harvey Patterson, 57; Adna
Ward, Centralia Washington Stake; stake president, former high councilor,
seminary teacher, bishop, Scoutmaster and missionary in the Central States
Mission. Owner of Water Doctor of Washington. Born in Chehalis, Wash., to
Noble Harvey and Elinor Lillian Harms Patterson. Married
Connie Lynette Peeples, five children.
A ward Relief Society president, Sister Patterson is a former counselor
in a stake Primary presidency, ward Primary president, counselor in a ward
Relief Society presidency and ward Young Women president. Born in Raymond,
Wash., to Ralph Spoor and Vanita Lorraine Peeples.
Israel and Araceli Rubalcava
Israel Rubalcava, 46; El Bosque Ward,
Oaxaca Mexico Amapolas Stake; stake president; former counselor in a stake
presidency, high councilor, high priests group leader and missionary in the
Mexico Monterrey Mission. Regional coordinator for Church Educational
System. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Israel Rubalcava Esparza and
Guadalupe Lopez de Rubalcava. Married
Araceli
Briones Jasso, five children.
A family history consultant, Sister Rubalcava is a former ward Relief
Society president, counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency,
counselor in ward Relief Society and Young Women presidencies and
missionary in the Mexico Torreon Mission. Born in Ciudad Mante, Mexico, to
David Briones Galarza and Maria Teresa Jasso de Briones.
Deanna and Karl Webb
Karl Eugene Webb, 66, Walnut Canyon
Ward, Flagstaff Arizona Stake; missionary in the
Germany Hamburg Mission;
former stake mission president, bishop, high councilor and missionary in
the Swiss-Austrian Mission. Retired professor of German literature and art
history. Born in Lehi, Utah, to Karl Elmo and Josephine Muhlestein Webb.
