Elder Kenneth Johnson of the Seventy and president of the Australia/New Zealand Area, addressed members of the New South Wales (Australia) Parliament at a special lunch held in honor of visiting Senior Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, J. Clifford Wallace.
Co-sponsor of the meeting was the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, John C. Price.
In his remarks Elder Johnson paralleled the growth and development of the New South Wales Parliament in the early 19th century with the establishment and expansion of the Church. He cited the arrival of missionaries in the 1850s, the conversion of descendants of early British convicts and the subsequent growth of the Church to its current status.
Judge Wallace, who served as president of the San Diego California Temple, also addressed the group on "Establishing the Rule of Law in Emerging Nations." He is a Chief Judge Emeritus.
Following the lunch, Elder Johnson, Judge Wallace and Lionel Walters, Church Educational System area director, met with the Premier of New South Wales, Robert Carr.
