The past decade, during which the current First Presidency has administered the affairs of the church, has been "a wonderful season in the history" of the LDS faith. "There has never been another to equal it. There has been a remarkable flowering of the work. There have been many meaningful accomplishments."

The forward thrust is not the work of general authorities alone, but "the result of the faith, the prayers, the efforts, the dedicated service of every member of a stake presidency or high council, of every bishopric and quorum presidency, of every auxiliary presidency, of every faithful, active member of this church.

"The majesty and wonder of the gospel of Jesus Christ restored through the Prophet Joseph shines today with resplendent luster . . . We must never feel arrogant or proud, but we can feel humbly grateful for what has been accomplished in a variety of undertakings."

The church is "a great international family, 12 million strong, scattered through 160 nations." In the past 10 years, 500 stakes have been created, 4,000 new wards and branches added. Growth is strong in church-sponsored education, the number of temples dotting the Earth has increased from 47 to 119, with three more to be dedicated this year. Thousands of buildings have been constructed, hundreds of millions of dollars of humanitarian aid distributed throughout the world and 51 million copies of the Book of Mormon were distributed in the past 10 years.
