Performers and families are invited to participate as cast members in a new pageant to be performed in Nauvoo, Ill., this summer. The Nauvoo pageant will open on Friday, July 8, and will run Tuesday through Saturday evenings through Friday, Aug. 5.

Actor Dallyn Vail Bayles will play the role of the Prophet Joseph Smith in new Nauvoo pageant this summer.

The pageant celebrates the mission of Joseph Smith, the building of the city and the Nauvoo temple, and the blessings available today because of the restoration of the gospel. The pageant cast will consist of 20 lead performers and approximately 150 ensemble members.

Broadway performer Dallyn Vail Bayles will play the role of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

Other leading roles (11 for men and 8 for women, ages 20s through 50s) are open, including Brigham Young, Parley P. Pratt, Wilford Woodruff, John Taylor, Robert Laird, Emma Smith, Eliza R. Snow, Mary Ann Young, Leonora Taylor, and Becky Laird. Lead actors and actresses will rehearse in Salt Lake City from mid-May through June 10 and will perform in Nauvoo for the entire run of the pageant. Travel and living expenses for lead performers will be provided by the production, as well as a modest honorarium. Solo singing is not required except for the part of John Taylor, but dance experience will be helpful. Lead cast auditions will be held in Salt Lake on April 29-30 and May 6-7. To schedule an audition, please contact the Music and Cultural Arts office at 801-240-6492 or 1-800-453-3860, ext. 2-6492.

The production ensemble will be filled by volunteer families who will participate for approximately two weeks: one week of rehearsal and one week of performance. Children of all ages are welcome.
