JOAO PESSOA, Brazil A missionary serving in Brazil suffered a head wound during a robbery attempt, a spokesman for the Church said.
Elder Tyler Harding of Mesa, Ariz., was wounded Saturday evening, April 9, while returning home from a teaching appointment. He was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, was conscious and alert and was reported to be recovering well, spokesman Dale Bills said.
"Elder Harding is speaking and breathing without assistance," said President Silvio Geschwandtner of the Brazil Joao Pessoa Mission. "He remembers events and recognizes me and other missionaries."
Elder Harding has been serving in the Brazil Joao Pessoa Mission for 21 months. His parents traveled to Brazil to be with him.
The alleged assailant was arrested and is being held in jail.
